Dr Basil Al-Amleh
Basil graduated with his BDS from the University of Otago in 2001. After working for a couple of years as a general dentist in Queensland, he then worked in Auckland for several years before returning to Otago to complete his Clinical Doctorate in Prosthodontics in 2011. Following this, he took up the position of Senior Lecturer in Dental Biomaterials Science at Otago, tutoring and supervising both undergraduates and postgraduate students. He also supervised Clinical Doctorate, PhD and Masters candidates. His thesis and research interests were focused on dental ceramics failure and fractography. During that time, he authored and co-authored numerous research publications, as well as several chapters in the implantology textbooks, “Fundamentals of Implant Dentistry” volumes 1 and 2.
In 2015, he was offered a Consultant Prosthodontist position with the Saudi National Guard, which allowed him to see and travel World with his young family, until his return to New Zealand early 2023 to establish a Prosthodontic Practice in Auckland.
With over 12 years of clinical experience in Prosthodontics, Basil has developed a reputation for excellence in Prosthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. He is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, where he completed a Mastery programme and training in management of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and the airway. Basil is passionate about training and education. He lectures around NZ on temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) and their management to general dentists. In addition to this, he is also a guest speaker at AUT, giving lectures to senior Oral Health Therapy students on screening for OSA and TMD patients.
