Founded in 2019 by the esteemed New Zealander of the Year, Mike King, I Am Hope is a charity dedicated to fostering positive societal attitudinal change regarding mental health. With a vision to create a supportive environment for young people, I Am Hope has been a beacon of hope for countless children and teenagers across New Zealand.

Over the past decade, I Am Hope has engaged with over 300,000 students in schools nationwide, listening to their concerns and sharing vital information about mental health. This approach has helped destigmatize mental health discussions, empowering young people to seek help and support when they need it most.

Central to I Am Hope's mission is its commitment to providing accessible mental health services. Through its initiatives, the charity has facilitated free counselling for more than 10,000 young individuals, ensuring that help is available to those who might otherwise face barriers in accessing mental health care.

A cornerstone of I Am Hope's efforts is the annual Gumboot Friday event, which was established to raise funds specifically for free counselling services. Since its launch, Gumboot Friday has generated over $3 million, directly supporting mental health resources for over 10,000 rangatahi (youth). This event not only raises crucial funds but also increases awareness around mental health issues, encouraging communities to come together in support of their youth.
